It seems as if science fiction movies in general and super hero culture in particular are pervading into every aspect of modern society at the moment, so it was only a matter of time before it found its way to even the world of luxury super-yachts. But The Gotham Project is more than just a gimmick; it is a place where science fiction imagery meets science fact technology, where fantasy dreams meets fantastic design. Inspired by Batman’s mask, this ultra sleek yacht is a joint venture between designer Ivan Erdeviki, Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts and project broker Harry Bristow-Holes with Van Oossanen Navel Architects designing the running surface and a recent keel laying ceremony sees it step after four years of planning, from the design studio and into the real world.
Obviously its design is a combination of the fantasy world it is drawn from and the practicalities of modern marine design and the sleek lines of its aluminium hull and superstructure resemble the look of several Italian- and Turkish built yachts. But it is those dark and brooding lines and menacing looks inspired by the Caped Crusader himself that give The Gotham Project its unique qualities. And underneath the black beauties exterior are twin 2000 hp MTU engines capable of delivering a transatlantic range at 12 knots and a top end of 26 knots. With a draft of only 6 foot 10 inches it is capable of cruising into many harbours and coastal areas normally off limits to yachts of a similar length.
And even though from a distance the yacht has a look reminiscent of a stealth bomber, Erdeviki’s design actually allows for a lot of social spaces including a foredeck that not only has three sunbeds but also a Jacuzzi. With the exterior helm being up by itself instead of the usual flybridge layout, the additional space has allowed a wealth of luxury features including two dining areas, two wet bars and a main saloon. The bottom deck also features a broad swim platform with retractable stairs to allow ease of access to and from the water.
And just like stately Wayne Manor, this unique and luxurious yacht offers luxury beyond imagination – a custom glass wine cellar, a gymnasium and spacious entertainment areas. It boasts four staterooms for eight guests as well as a sumptuous master suite for the lucky owners. The Gotham Project will also be certified for use as a charter vessel and is available from spring 2019.
